MI bundled out SRH for 137 after posting 150 on the board.
Opting to bat first, the defending champions posted 150/5 in 20 overs. Quinton de Kock was the top-scorer with 39-ball 40 while Kieron Pollard (35* off 22) and skipper Rohit Sharma (32 off 25) made notable contributions.
Vijay Shankar (2-19), Mujeeb Ur Rahman (2-29) and Khaleel Ahmed (1-24) starred with the ball for Sunrisers.
In reply, SRH were cruising in the chase as the duo of David Warner and Jonny Bairstow put on 67 runs for the opening wicket. Krunal Pandya broke the partnership by removing Bairstow on 43 and then leg-spinner Rahul Chahar ran through Hyderabad’s middle-order.
Chahar removed Manish Pandey (2), Virat Singh (11) and Abhishek Sharma (2) in quick succession while Hardik Pandya affected the run-out of Warner (36) and Abdul Samad (7) as MI reduced SRH to 129/6.
In the death-overs, Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah once again did the job for Mumbai. While Boult sent Rashid Khan (0) packing with a ferocious yorker in the 18th over, Bumrah dismissed Shankar (28) in the penultimate over to put the final nail in the coffin.
In the final over, Boult completed the formalities as he knocked over Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1) and Khaleel (1) to bundle out SRH for 137 in 19.4 overs, ensuring a convincing 13-run victory for MI.
Cricket fraternity lauded the MI bowlers for pulling another heist while defending a modest total.
