New Zealand leg-spinner Ish Sodhi has returned to Rajasthan Royals (RR) as the team liaison officer for the upcoming 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.

Sodhi has previously played for the Rajasthan Royals in 2018 and 2019 season in the lucrative T20 tournament before joining the RR as spin consultant and Operations Executive last season.

However, the 28-year-old, who has so far played 33 ODIs and 52 T20Is for New Zealand, registered at the IPL 2021 auction, but didn’t found a buyer, though he has now eventually found a new role in his old franchise, as RR have signed the cricketer as the team liaison officer for the IPL 14.

The spinner will work closely with RR’s new Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara and Chief Operating Officer Jake Lush McCrum to create an engaging environment for the Royals’ cricketers. The Kiwi star will also assist with match day preparations and creating engaging content for the fans.

Sodhi said in a statement: “The Royals are an innovative, dynamic franchise that plays an entertaining brand of cricket, and I am delighted to rejoin my IPL family to work across the board.”

About his last stint with the franchise, the New Zealander said: “Last year I expressed my interest in exploring the management side of the franchise, and the Royals management team was very supportive, offering me a role to enable me to begin my off-field journey.”

He signed off by saying, “I'm looking forward to supporting the coaches and the business operations of the team through which I'll really develop my cricketing and management skills.”
