MI thrashed DC by 57 runs in the first qualifier
Asked to bat first, the defending champions piled up a mammoth 200/5 in 20 overs with contributions from Ishan Kishan’s 30-ball 55*, Suryakumar Yadav’s 38-ball 51, Quinton de Kock’s 25-ball 40 and Hardik Pandya’s 14-ball 37*.
R Ashwin was the stand-out bowler for Delhi, claiming 3 wickets by conceding 29 runs in his four overs.
Defending the total, Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult ran through Delhi’s top-order. While Bumrah dismissed Shikhar Dhawan (0) and Shreyas Iyer (12), Boult removed Prithvi Shaw (0) and Ajinkya Rahane (0) to reduce DC to 20/4.
Although Marcus Stoinis showed some resistance and scored 65 off 45 balls, Bumrah knocked him over to put the final nail in the coffin. Daniel Sams was Bumrah’s fourth victim as the speedster finished with the figures of 4-1-14-4.
For the Capitals, Akshar Patel scored 33-ball 42 in the later stage but the team could eventually manage 143/8 in 20 overs.
Cricket experts lauded Bumrah for his heroic spell, which ensured Mumbai Indians’ place in the final.
