Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) clashed in Qualifier 1 of the IPL 2020 on November 5, 2020, in Dubai. Shreyas Iyer of DC won the toss and chose to field first, a norm in IPL this season.

However, the decision backfired as MI powered their way through to 200/5 in 20 overs, mainly due to Kishan and Hardik adding 92 runs in the last 6 overs. De Kock (40), Suryakumar (51), Kishan (55* with 3 sixes and 4 fours), and Hardik (37* in 14 balls with 5 sixes) did most of the damage as DC bowlers had no answer to the onslaught.

Anrich Nortje picked 1/50, while Rabada went for 42 runs and Sams gave away 44 runs. The best DC bowler was Ashwin who picked 3/29 in his 4 overs, which included wickets of Rohit and Pollard for ducks.

It was expected that DC will put up a fight given their batting lineup. However, Trent Boult put that to rest by sending back Prithvi Shaw and Ajinkya Rahane to the pavilion for ducks in the first over itself. Shaw’s poor IPL continued, while Rahane had no answer to a Boult inswinger.

Much depended on Shikhar Dhawan now, as he had become the only batsman in IPL history to make back-to-back centuries in one season of the tournament. But he faced off against Jasprit Bumrah, who bowled one of the best yorkers seen to a lefty and hit the off-stump with pinpoint accuracy.

Even Dhawan was left stunned with that amazing delivery and DC was left 0/3 after 1.2 overs.
