Defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) beat Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by 48 runs at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi and registered their second win of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 while Kings XI Punjab suffered their third loss.
Earlier, Kings XI Punjab won the toss and decided to bowl first. Sheldon Cottrell started with a maiden-wicket over as he dismissed de Kock for a five-ball duck. After crossing 50 runs mark he changed his gears and smashed Jimmy Neesham for 20 runs in an over but Shami sent him back to dressing room for 70 runs. In the end Kieron Pollard's 47* off 20 balls and Hardik Pandya's 30* off 11 balls helped Mumbai to post a good total of 191/4 on the board.
In reply, Kings XI Punjab's openers gave a decent start by scoring 30 runs in 3 overs but Jasprit Bumrah broke this stand by removing Mayank Agarwal and after his wicket KL Rahul also got out in Rahul Chahar's over. Nicholas Pooran who scored 44 runs fought well but the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Karun Nair, Sarfaraz Khan and Jimmy Neesham disappointed and Punjab could only make 143 runs for the loss of 8 wickets and lost the match. For Mumbai, James Pattinson, Rahul Chahar and Jasprit Bumrah took 2 wickets each.
