RCB defeated the defending champions in the one-over eliminator.
Asked to bat first, RCB piled up 201/3 in their stipulated 20 overs on the back of fabulous half-centuries from AB de Villiers (55* off 24 balls), Aaron Finch (52 off 35 balls) and Devdutt Padikkal (54 off 40 balls). All-rounder Shivam Dube also played a valuable cameo of 10-ball 27*.
For MI, Rahul Chahar (1-31) and Trent Boult (2-34) were the pick of the bowlers while others were taken to the cleaners.
Chasing the target, the defending champions were reeling at 78/4 before Ishan Kishan (99 off 58 balls) and Kieron Pollard (60 off 24 balls) produced jaw-dropping innings to tie the match. The duo shared a 119-run stand in just 51 deliveries to turn the game on its head.
In the Super-Over, Navdeep Saini bowled brilliantly for RCB as he conceded only 7 runs in it and took the prized scalp of Pollard in the fifth delivery. Hardik Pandya and Rohit Sharma were the other two batsmen for MI.
Needing 8 to win the one-over eliminator, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers came to the crease for RCB while Jasprit Bumrah was given the ball by MI.
Only 2 runs were scored off the first 3 deliveries, leaving 6 runs to win the final 3 balls. De Villiers hit the fourth ball for a boundary and followed it with a single while Kohli flicks the last ball for a four to ensure RCB’s nail-biting victory.
Cricket experts were left speechless as the 13th edition of IPL produced another Super-Over finish.
