Gavaskar said why RCB has not won the title yet is still a puzzle.
Former India captain and cricket pundit Sunil Gavaskar named a match-winner for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) who can turn the fortunes of the franchise in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 and he is none other than India’s star leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal.
The RCB is yet to win the IPL trophy despite having a number of world-class players in their ranks including captain himself Virat Kohli and South Africa superstar AB de Villiers. However, they are hoping to win their maiden IPL trophy this season after having roped in new support staff with former New Zealand coach Mike Hesson and former Australian cricketer Simon Katich at the think-tank.
The franchise has also bought big players like Aaron Finch and Chris Morris for the upcoming 13th edition of the IPL 2020 to give them better stability.
Gavaskar wrote in his column for Sportstar: “Why a team like Royal Challengers Bangalore hasn’t won the title as yet is a puzzle. Any team that has Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers should never be short of runs and maybe that’s also a problem, for when these two failed, as humans sometimes do, then the others haven’t put their hands up. They have a new coach and will be hoping that this will be their year.”
Given the history of UAE pitches assisting the spinners more, the legendary batsman has further reckoned that Chahal can be a match-winner for the RCB in the IPL 13 where the franchise will open their campaign against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on 21st September in Dubai.
He signed off by saying, “On pitches that will get slower, it may be a good idea to have both the champion batsmen open the batting while the ball is hard and new and will come on to the bat nicely than when the spinners are operating. Chahal could be a match-winner for RCB on those pitches.”
