Head coach Ricky Ponting was criticial of Ashwin for running-out the non-striker in IPL 2019.
Ponting had said he warned his players the moment Ashwin did what he did in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 to refrain from going down that path, adding that he remains a firm believer in the spirit of the game.

However, ahead of the 13th edition of the league in UAE, starting September 19, the franchise's chairman seemed slightly more understanding of Ashwin and said rules are meant to be followed, with the form of dismissal accepted a long way back by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
"Rules are rules and every batsman should follow them. What Ashwin did on that occasion (during last IPL) took a lot of courage, frankly I don't know whether I would have done the same," Jindal was quoted as saying by Gulf News.
"It will not be right for me to comment on it as a lot has been said already."
Jindal realises how inches stolen by the non-striker can make all the difference in a game scenario.
"If you remember Mahendra Singh Dhoni's dismissal in the World Cup semi-finals (last year), he was run out just by inches. If he wasn't, India would have possibly made it to the finals," he recalled.
Ponting's comment went viral. Ashwin, responding to that, said he will have a chat himself with the coach. It'll be interesting to see who has his way finally on the matter.
"We will sit for a chat with him. He said he wants to have a conversation. We have already talked over the phone. It was a very interesting chat," Ashwin had said on his YouTube channel.
