Australian cricket legend Ricky Ponting is someone whom everyone is looking for inspiration with many youngsters dreaming to work with and learn things about the game from and the injury-prone Indian pacer Mohit Sharma is no different.

Mohit has been struggling with career-threatening back injuries over the 2-3 years, though, the pacer has now fully recovered after having undergone a surgery and a complete rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and is now looking forward to once again leave his mark on the field.

He was scheduled to return to the cricket field with the Delhi Capitals in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 but it was suspended indefinitely due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

However, the IPL 2020 postponed presently, but the 31-year-old pacer is looking forward to once again leave his mark in the premier T20 event if and when the tournament kicks off.

He was also excited to work under DC head coach and two-time World Cup-winning captain Ponting, saying it will be a ‘golden opportunity’ to learn things from the Aussie great.

Mohit said during an Instagram Live session conducted by the DC, “It would also be a golden opportunity to work and learn from Ricky Ponting – all the players only have praises for him. I hope the team does exceedingly well when the IPL happens, and we can give the Delhi fans great joy.”

Delhi has never won an IPL trophy and even could not make a single IPL final yet, but the pacer believes that the side has a very strong Indian core and they have a great opportunity this time to possibly win an IPL trophy if the event gets underway this year.

Sharma said, “I think it is a huge opportunity for our team. We have a fantastic group of players with a very strong Indian core, and I believe our team has the right players in all departments who can help us in challenging for the trophy. So, I feel our fans can expect huge things from the team.”

He signed off by saying, “I’m still excited to represent the franchise. I feel it’s a young team with a solid Indian core, and I know most of the players here - like Shikhar Dhawan, Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra, Harshal Patel - both on and off the field very well.”
