IPL 2020: 5 of the released players who might get a good bid in upcoming auction

IPL 2020: 5 of the released players who might get a good bid in upcoming auction

The IPL 2020 auction will take place on December 19, 2019.

IPL franchises recently released a bunch of players from their squads in order to free up spaces and increase their purses for the upcoming IPL 2020 auction on December 19 in Kolkata.

Many of the players who were released were not exactly in the form of their lives for the teams in the past few tournament editions, and hence the franchises decided to cut their losses and may go for fresh and younger players in the auctions. Most of the teams released foreign players given their high prices and low returns.

However, Team COC has come up with five names who may get picked in the upcoming auction given their skills and experience in the format.

Here are 5 of the released players which might get a good bid in upcoming auctions

DEEPAK HOODA
Deepak Hooda is a promising young cricketer, who did extremely well for Rajasthan Royals first and then for Sunrisers Hyderabad as a finisher and part-time off-spinner. He has so far 524 runs in 61 matches at a strike rate of 127.18 with one fifty to his name so far.

However, in the past 2-3 seasons, Hooda has not been able to replicate his success as a hitter and was even benched for most of the last two editions. Therefore it was imminent that he was released and now there is a chance that a team with a need for Indian finisher down the order might get him, given that he can regain form in upcoming tournaments.

MARCUS STOINIS

Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis has a decent record in IPL so far with 473 runs and 15 wickets in 29 matches. Stoinis has played some match-winning innings, but such innings have been very few. RCB had a batting heavy side, filled with all-rounders and it was a given they wanted to get some better players and hence released many players.

Stoinis is an excellent all-rounder capable of doing miracles with either the bat or the ball if utilized properly and there are teams who need his expertise. There are chances that Stoinis will get a bid easily as he is a prized member of the Australian team and talented enough to win matches single-handedly.

JAYDEV UNADKAT
Jaydev Unadkat may be remembered for getting bidding totaling INR 20 crores in two seasons from Rajasthan Royals. However, he failed to live upto expectations picking just 11 and 10 wickets in IPL 2018 and IPL 2019. Unadkat may not be express pace, but he has the variations that are needed for the T20 format. Therefore, one may expect given his talent and experience in cricket, Unadkat might get a bid from other franchises.

CHRIS MORRIS

Chris Morris was one of the most talented picks in IPL for Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals (nee Daredevils) since 2013. However, in the past three seasons, he has not performed as per expectations and talent, with the bat atleast. But he has had an impact in the past and for the South Africa team and possibly will get a bid from other franchises.

CHRIS LYNN
Chris Lynn has been the lynchpin for Kolkata Knight Riders since 2012 and though he has often been injured and missed matches frequently, KKR side had never thought of letting him go. But ahead of the IPL 2020 auction, the unthinkable happened and Lynn was let go. Meanwhile, Lynn had seen a dip in form and given his high price for retention, KKR decided to let him go despite him scoring 491 and 405 runs in past two seasons.

Chris Lynn felt "shivers" down the spine on hearing news regarding Glenn Maxwell

A big reason for his release may also have been his fragility. Lynn has a tendency to get himself injured, especially his shoulders which have undergone surgery and hampered his hitting abilities as well. But given his impact and ability to win matches at the top, franchises may be interested in buying him. Even KKR may go for him at a lower price in the auction.
