Mumbai Indians hosted Delhi Capitals in the third match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on Sunday (March 24).

After being put into bat by MI skipper Rohit Sharma, DC rode on Rishabh Pant's breathtaking 78 not out off just 27 balls to post 213/6 on the board. Coming in to bat after the dismissal of Colin Ingram (47) in the 13th over, Pant ripped apart every bowler who came his way as his innings included 7 fours and as many sixes. Pant's fifty came off just 18 balls as he hit the second fastest half-century by a Delhi Capitals batsman.

In reply, Mumbai got off to a terrible start as they lost their top three for just 45 runs inside 6 overs. While Ishant Sharma removed the opening duo of Rohit Sharma (14) and Quinton de Kock (27), Suryakumar Yadav got run-out courtesy a sharp direct-hit from DC skipper Shreyas Iyer.

When things were looking down and out for the hosts, Kieron Pollard along with Yuvraj Singh forged a 50-run stand and provided some momentum to the innings. However, Keemo Paul cut short Pollard’s party on 21 with a brilliant knuckle ball. Two balls later, Akshar Patel dismissed Hardik Pandya for nought to reduce MI to 95/5.

Although Yuvraj did his best to keep Mumbai in the hunt with a brilliant knock of 35-ball 53, it was never going to be enough with the creeping required run-rate. Yuvi eventually perished in the penultimate over off Rabada while MI got bundled out for 176 in 19.2 overs.

Twitter experts were impressed with Yuvraj’s valiant effort despite an easy victory for Delhi Capitals.
