Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has clarified reports about the possibility of his participation in the upcoming IPL 2027 auction. These reports came after Mohammad Amir entered the Afghanistan Premier League (AFL) player draft as a British citizen.

Notably, Amir gained UK citizenship thanks to his wife Narjis Khan, allowing him to play as a local player in English domestic competitions. However, Amir’s affiliated cricket board remains the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The draft register also lists him as a Pakistani national with residence in the UK.

Cricbuzz had reported that it was expected that Mohammad Amir might also enter the IPL 2027 mini auction, thanks to his British citizenship. This was to explore a loophole in which Pakistani players, despite being banned from playing in the IPL, have previously participated in the richest T20 league in the world.

Azhar Mahmood, former Pakistani all-rounder, played in the IPL from 2012 to 2015 for Kings XI Punjab (Punjab Kings) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), due to his British passport.

However, former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir has taken to X to clarify the reports and has declined any such plans to enter the IPL auction.

“Hi everyone, I just wanted to clarify news regarding IPL, which is not true," Amir wrote on X.

The British passport has made Mohammad Amir a local player in English cricket, including the T20 Blast and The Hundred, and has been classed as an overseas player in the Pakistan Super League.

Even if Amir had been registered, his place in the auction, likely to be held in Goa on December 16, would have depended on at least one franchise showing interest.
