Mohammad Amir entered Afghanistan Premier League draft as UK citizen.
However, Amir’s affiliated cricket board remains the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), as the pacer registered for the upcoming Afghanistan Premier League player draft on November 3, which will be hosted in Dubai. The draft register, however, lists him as a Pakistani national with residence in the UK.
The APL has placed him in the Platinum tier, the highest category available in the draft.
As per a Cricbuzz report, it is widely expected that Amir will participate in the next IPL 2027 auction as a British citizen. Previously, even with the ban on Pakistani citizens, former international player Azhar Mahmood participated in the IPL from 2012 till 2015 with Kings XI Punjab (Punjab Kings) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by using a British passport.
It will become clear whether any team will show interest in Amir in Goa on December 16, at the time of the IPL 2027 mini-auction. Having played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 62 T20Is, Amir last appeared in Pakistan’s uniform against Ireland in Lauderhill, Florida, in the ICC T20 World Cup in June 2024.
Former India internationals Vijay Shankar and KS Bharat, both of whom have retired from all forms of the game, including the IPL, have also registered for the Afghanistan Premier League player draft.
Vijay, Ayaan Khan, and Murugan Ashwin are categorized as Indians, whereas Bharat is tagged as an Indian player residing in the UAE. Vijay, Murugan, and Bharat belong to the Gold category in the draft, in which 462 players have been selected.
The Indian-origin players in the draft consist of Unmukt Chand (USA), Rahul Chopra (UAE), Akshdeep Nath (UAE), Alishan Sharafu (UAE), Aryan Afzal Khan (UAE), Ayaan Khan (Oman), Dhruv Parashar (UAE), Vraj Patel (Kenya), and Yasin Patel (Kuwait).
