Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) captain Pat Cummins was over the moon after his team qualified for the IPL 2026 playoffs thanks to their brilliant win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 18, 2026, in Chennai.

He lauded his batters Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen for showing great restraint and responsibility in a tricky chase against the CSK on a difficult wicket at Chepauk.

Dewald Brevis (44), Kartik Sharma (32), and contributions from Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube took CSK to 180/7. For SRH, Pat Cummins took 3/28 on a difficult pitch.

In response, Ishan Kishan (70) and Heinrich Klaasen (47) formed a brilliant partnership after Travis Head (6) and Abhishek Sharma’s (26) dismissals. Thanks to their brilliant performances, SRH achieved the target in 19 overs with 5 wickets in hand.

Cummins said the conditions at Chepauk were challenging and praised his batters for adjusting well to the surface.

Really satisfying. It's a bit different from how we normally play. Very happy. That partnership, it was really tough; we thought you needed one or two really good partnerships,” Cummins said in the post-match presentation.

Although SRH is known for their aggressive batting strategy, Cummins acknowledged that the club needed to be patient on a pitch where the ball was difficult to hit.

We are not famous for responsible batting. But yeah, when we were bowling, the ball was keeping low and not quite coming on. It was about par. They play here and know the wicket a lot better,” he added.

Cummins especially praised Kishan for stepping up and guiding the innings under pressure.

Winning today was what mattered. You can't give yourselves a better chance than what we have. Ishan deserves all the credit for leading the side for the first half. There are a few areas we can improve, but overall, we are happy,” Cummins said.

With 16 points after 13 games, SRH is ranked third in the standings. On May 22, they will play the reigning champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad.
