The incident unfolded in the 15th over of SRH’s chase.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter Heinrich Klaasen lost his cool after being stumped by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wicketkeeper Sanju Samson off Noor Ahmad's bowling during the 63rd match of IPL 2026 at Chepauk on Monday (May 18).
The incident unfolded in the 15th over of SRH’s chase. Klaasen had looked incredibly dangerous, scoring 47 runs off just 26 deliveries before missing a googly and dragging his foot out of the crease. Samson's rapid glovework rattled the bails in a flash, prompting the on-field umpire to go upstairs and the third umpire confirmed the dismissal after several replays.
As Klaasen began walking back, tempers flared. The cameras captured him turning around to confront Samson and exchanging some heated words. While Samson refrained from trading verbal blows, he gave Klaasen a long stare as the SRH star headed towards the dressing room.
Despite Klaasen’s dismissal, the Sunrisers overhauled the target of 181 runs with five wickets and an over to spare, thereby booking their place in the playoffs. Ishan Kishan was the stand-out performer for SRH in the chase, returning with a knock of 70 in just 47 balls with 7 fours and 3 sixes.
After this defeat, CSK’s playoff hopes are hanging by a thread. With 12 points from 13 matches, the five-time champions sit in sixth place and no longer control their own fate. They must win their last league match against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on May 21 and depend heavily on other results to secure the final-four berth.
