With this win, CSK jumped to fifth spot on the IPL 2026 points table.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) registered a five-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Sunday (May 10) at Chepauk to move up to fifth spot on the IPL 2026 points table.
Asked to bat first, LSG piled up 203/8 on the board. Josh Inglis smashed 33-ball 85 to set the tone, while Shahbaz Ahmed provided late impetus with a cameo of 43* in 25 balls. Jamie Overton was the pick of the bowlers for CSK, returning with figures of 3 for 36 in his four overs.
In reply, the hosts got off to a blazing start as the opening duo of Ruturaj Gaikwad and Sanju Samson took on the visiting bowlers right from the word go. While Samson perished after scoring 28 off 14 balls, Gaikwad joined forces with Urvil Patel to make a mockery of the LSG bowling attack, adding 81 runs for second wicket to put CSK in the driver’s seat.
In particular, Urvil was severe on the LSG bowlers as he equalled Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record for the joint-fastest half-century in IPL history, hitting 50 off just 13 balls. The youngster went on to score 65 off 23 balls with 2 fours and 8 sixes before being removed by Shahbaz Ahmed.
Urvil’s dismissal triggered a mini-collapse as Gaikwad (42 off 28), Dewald Brevis (10), and Kartik Sharma (20) got out in quick succession. However, Prashant Veer (18*) and Shivam Dube (15*) held their nerves to seal the win with four balls to spare.
Cricket fraternity hailed Urvil Patel and rest of the CSK batters for pulling off a stiff chase to keep their playoff hopes alive.
