Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Urvil Patel equalled Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record for the joint-fastest half-century in IPL history on Sunday (May 10), smashing 50 off 13 balls against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

After Sanju Samson was dismissed for 14-ball 28 in the stiff chase of 204, there was a small opening for LSG to slow the game down. However, Urvil made sure that never happened. The youngster walked in at No. 3 and launched a brutal counterattack right from the word go.

Urvil hammered Avesh Khan for three successive sixes in the fifth over, and followed it up with three more maximums against Digvesh Rathi in the sixth over. He notched up his fifty on the final delivery of the seventh over.

After reaching the milestone, Urvil Patel pulled out a handwritten note from his pocket that read: “This is for you papa.” His heartfelt celebration went viral on the internet.

Here’s the video:

Urvil Patel was eventually dismissed by Shahbaz Ahmed in the 10th over for 65 off 23 balls, including two fours and eight sixes, at a staggering strike-rate of 282.61. In terms of strike-rate, it was the second-most explosive knock in CSK’s history, only behind Suresh Raina’s 87 (25) in 2014.
