The RR all-rounder was dismissed for 20 off 14 balls against DC on Friday.
Ravichandran Ashwin has raised concerns regarding Ravindra Jadeja's cautious approach against spin in T20s, citing a long-standing issue to accelerate that has continued into IPL 2026 for the Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Between 2020 and 2025, Jadeja's strike rate against spin was around 94.28, among the lowest for regular middle-order batters.
The all-rounder has struggled to find boundaries this season, managing only 12 fours and two sixes in 117 balls so far. These numbers suggest that he is not looking to accelerate but rather focused on providing stability.
Opposition captains have utilized spin as a containment strategy against Jadeja. Ashwin highlighted this, comparing it to a "MS Dhoni" type template of absorbing pressure.
“Many people, including coaches, have spoken to Ravindra Jadeja about taking on spinners more aggressively, but he is not listening. During the 2024 T20 World Cup, whenever India needed a left-hander up the order, they chose Axar Patel over the more experienced Jadeja. The reason is simple, Axar doesn’t hesitate. He takes on spinners and every other bowler with confidence,” Ashwin said on his YouTube channel Ash Ki Baat.
''This mindset of Ravindra Jadeja is similar to MS Dhoni, with whom he has shared many years in the Indian team. Both prefer to take the game deep and target the pacers," he added.
Promoted to No. 5 against Delhi Capitals (DC), Ravindra Jadeja scored 20 off 14 balls before being dismissed by Mitchell Starc in Jaipur on Friday (May 1).
Coming to the match, the Royals failed to defend a massive total of 225 runs. DC’s opening duo of KL Rahul (75 off 40) and Pathum Nissanka (62 off 33) set the tone with a 110-run partnership. Nitish Rana (33 off 17), Tristan Stubbs (18* off 11) and Ashutosh Sharma (25* off 15) then produced vital cameos to seal the chase with seven wickets and five deliveries to spare.
