KL Rahul recently hit the highest score by an Indian in IPL- 152*.
The Delhi Capitals' quest for a postseason spot in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season has been fueled in part by KL Rahul. He discussed the development of contemporary T20 batting, his performances versus Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and his strong bond with the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
“There’s nothing different I do against RCB. I’ve thought about it a lot. If there is a mental switch, why can’t I use it against every team? I haven’t found an answer. But Chinnaswamy is very special to me. I grew up there as a kid, watching players and dreaming of playing on that ground. So, a psychological switch happens when I go there," KL Rahul was quoted as saying to JioStar.
Rahul added that the atmosphere and familiarity of the venue naturally inspire him to perform.
“Some stadiums just give you a good vibe and make you feel you’ll do well. I’m happy I’ve consistently performed against a top-quality, defending champion side like RCB,” he added.
Rahul recently went past MS Dhoni’s record for most runs in the IPL, but revealed the one milestone of Dhoni he would like to match of the legendary cricketer.
“I didn’t even realize I had gone past Mahi bhai on the IPL’s all-time run-scorers list. Honestly, the milestone I would love to match with MS Dhoni is his five IPL trophies that he’s won with CSK,” KL added.
Rahul highlighted up-and-coming players like Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Ayush Mhatre, and Abhishek Sharma while praising the brave attitude of India's younger cricket players.
“It’s phenomenal what the new-age cricketers are doing. Vaibhav Suryavanshi has taken world cricket by storm,” he added.
In contrast to previous generations, he described how T20 cricket has changed significantly. Speaking about his batting role, Rahul stated that although he has moved up and down the order over his career, opening is still the most natural position for him.
“Five years ago, we weren’t producing as many six-hitting batters as England or Australia. Now, things have changed, thanks to the IPL.
I enjoy the role of an opener in all formats. That’s what I have always done as a youngster growing up. Playing as an opening batter for Delhi Capitals makes my life a bit easier… I am happy that I am at the top,” he concluded.
