RCB lost to GT by 4 wickets in Ahmedabad.
GT won the toss and chose to bowl first. GT dismissed Jacob Bethell early, while Virat Kohli (28) and Devdutt Padikkal (40) provided some damage control. GT suffered a rough second over as RCB's top hitter, Virat Kohli, smashed Kagiso Rabada for five straight boundaries to take control of the game.
Rabada then turned things around in his following over, removing Virat Kohli, restoring balance, and increasing the team's effort on the field. RCB never recovered from their regular wicket losses, scoring only 155 runs on the board.
One of the wickets that hurt RCB badly was that of captain Rajat Patidar, who had scored 19 runs and was looking good to revive the RCB innings. However, his dismissal in the 8th over of the RCB innings proved to be a controversial one as his catch of Jason Holder was shrouded in doubt.
Patidar had pulled Arshad Khan off his hips towards the leg side, where Holder made a lot of ground and took an amazing running and diving catch.
Replays of the event were ambiguous about whether the ball had touched the ground. Despite the caution, the third umpire cleared the catch following a review, and Patidar was ruled out. This left Kohli and the RCB camp obviously upset with the decision that went against them at a critical point in the match.
Kohli was seen angrily querying the fourth umpire after implying that GT's Jason Holder had failed to take a clean catch and was dissatisfied with the third umpire's decision.
Former umpire Anil Chaudhary has shared his views about the incident, despite the fact that Kohli's decision to challenge the fourth umpire did not alter the outcome of the ruling or the match itself.
The important factors that an official must consider before evaluating such catches were outlined by Chaudhary, who retired from officiating duties in the Indian Premier League and international cricket last year. Patidar ought to have been given not out, in his opinion.
"You have to look at two things. First, control of the catch, and second, body movement. Before Holder had control of his body, his palm went downwards, and the ball touched the ground. I think it was not out. I'm not sure what the TV umpire saw," he said on the dismissal.
Shubman Gill’s 43 and Jos Buttler’s 39 were the main scores for GT, who were made hard to achieve the target. Rahul Tewatia’s late surge of 27* helped them win the game by 4 wickets.
