Finn Allen gave a flying start to KKR, scoring 37 in 17 balls, while captain Ajinkya Rahane surprised everyone by hammering 67 in 40 balls with 3 fours and 5 sixes.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi made 51 in 29 balls, while Rinku Singh contributed 33* with 4 fours as KKR posted 220/4 in 20 overs. Shardul Thakur was the standout bowler for MI, with 3/39.
Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma gave a scintillating start to MI's chase, adding 148 runs in 12 overs for the first wicket. Rohit Sharma fell for 78 in 38 balls with 6 fours and 6 sixes, while Rickelton scored 81 in 43 balls with 4 fours and 8 sixes.
After that, Suryakumar Yadav (16), Tilak Varma (20), and Hardik Pandya (18*) ensured that MI didn’t falter in the chase and achieved the target with 6 wickets in hand in the last over, finishing on 224/4. This was a special win for MI, as it was their first victory in their IPL season opener since 2012 IPL.
