Meanwhile, a video has gone viral on social media, which has given the Indian team an injury scare. The incident took place on the night of September 27, 2026, in Thiruvananthapuram, while the India squad was returning to their hotel after winning the first ODI against the West Indies.
The video, which was uploaded on X, shows Rohit losing his footing on the bus stairs and crashing hard to the ground. Support personnel and spectators at the incident instantly rushed to his aid and helped him get back on his feet.

On the other hand, the first ODI saw Rohit Sharma make only 32 runs with 2 fours and 3 sixes as India was set a target of 296 runs by the West Indies. However, Shubman Gill (110) and Virat Kohli (139*) ensured that India won the game by 8 wickets in 41.4 overs.
Earlier, after being asked to bat first by Shubman Gill, the West Indies had posted 295/7, with Justin Greaves making 101 and John Campbell and Amir Jangoo scoring half-centuries. Kuldeep Yadav picked 4/40 and was awarded Player of the Match for his bowling performance.
The second ODI will be played on September 30 in Guwahati, followed by the 3rd ODI in New Chandigarh on October 3, 2026. The two teams will then engage in a series of five T20Is as well.
