The second Test between India and New Zealand got underway at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune on Thursday (October 24).

Coming off an eight-wicket win in the series opener in Bengaluru, the Kiwis won the toss and elected to bat first in the second Test.

The first session of the match was even stevens. While the hosts managed to claim a couple of wickets, New Zealand posted 92 runs on the board.

Ravichandran Ashwin picked up both the wickets. The off-spinner trapped Tom Latham LBW with a ripper that pitched on leg stump and turned sharply from round the wicket whereas Will Young was caught down the leg-side, gloving one to Rishabh Pant as India were successful with their review.

Sarfaraz Khan, who was preferred over KL Rahul for this Test match, played a leading role in Young’s dismissal. The middle-order batter, stationed at short leg, convinced captain Rohit Sharma to opt for the DRS when wicketkeeper Pant was not confident at all.

The decision to take review turned out to be fruitful as replays showed that the ball brushed Young's gloves before resting into Pant's gloves.

Here’s the video:

"Sarfaraz did the leading act there. He has been brilliant since morning," former New Zealand pacer Simon Doull said on-air.

"This wicket should be attributed to Sarfaraz Khan. He was the only one totally convinced. Rishabh Pant didn't have a clue," ex-India opener Abhinav Mukund said on Jio Cinema.

It was a big moment in the Test match as Will Young and Devon Conway had threatened to take the game away from India with an impressive 44-run partnership. Young was dismissed for 18 off 45 balls.
