India captain Rohit Sharma was all smiles as he lifted the winner’s trophy in Dharamshala after winning the five-Test series 4-1. England lost the fifth and final Test at HPCA Stadium by an innings and 64 runs on day three.

Rohit led his team from the front in the absence of match-winners like Virat Kohli and KL Rahul in the five-match Test series against England.

Talking about his own performance after the match, Rohit stated that the day he believes he is not up to the mark, he won't hesitate to retire.

"One day, when I wake up and feel, I am not good enough then I will retire straight away but in the last few years I am playing the best cricket of my life," Rohit said in a chat.

Rohit also insisted that it was important for the team management to create an atmosphere where every player is relaxed and secure about their place in the side.

IND v ENG 2024: “Ashwin coming back after what he went through..”- Rahul Dravid’s stirring tribute to veteran spinner

All of these guys are extremely talented. All they needed was a little bit of assurance and a platform. We didn't want to keep putting pressure on them. We wanted to make sure our job at the start of the series was to give them the comfort, and assurance that they're going to play all five Test matches. Because we may not accept it, but it is the fact that it plays in everyone's mind, 'Okay, if I don't get it right in a couple of Test matches, I may get dropped'. The insecurity always creeps in,” said Rohit to JioCinema.

The first thing we wanted to do was to make sure that they're given the freedom and comfort to go and express themselves. We've seen the talent; there is no hiding from that. It is just, for us, about to make sure we lay a nice red carpet for them to go out and perform,” said Rohit further.

Head coach Rahul Dravid also lavished praise on Rohit and said that he stepped up and helped the team out of difficult situations when needed.

"Rohit Sharma has been exceptional in this series. In Rajkot, when we were 3 down inside the first hour, we needed someone to get us that hundred. In Ranchi also, he batted amazingly," Dravid said.
