India defeated England by 434 runs in Rajkot Test.
It was a win that was delivered by the youngsters who were guided by the veterans. Rohit Sharma made 131, Ravindra Jadeja made 112 runs and picked 7 wickets with a best of 5/41. Kuldeep Yadav also bowled absolutely brilliantly to keep England's batters in check in both innings.
However, youngsters shined brightly as Shubman Gill made 91, Yashasvi Jaiswal hammered 214* and Sarfaraz Khan made 62 and 68* on his debut. Dhruv Jurel impressed with his keeping in the second innings, while scoring 46 in his only outing with the bat.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) posted a short video after the win in Rajkot where Indian players and coaches reflected on the turning point of the match.
“When you win a Test match like that, it’s very hard to single out one particular turning point. I think overall, the cricket that we played in those four days, I think was superb. I will just name a few moments where we went through the line but I think it was an overall effort. The last four days that we played was superb,” said captain Rohit Sharma.
“I am really proud of the team I think we’ve been challenged in this game. I know in the end it seems like a very easy win. We pushed against the wall and it is nice to see different people stepping up. If you look at this game, there were performances from all around the team, not only from the senior guys but lots from the junior guys as well. Speaks volumes of the team and their ability to bounce back under pressure,” said team India coach Rahul Dravid.
“Taking a fifer in the second innings after scoring a hundred in the same match is a very special feeling. This is the special man of the match at my home ground and I would like to dedicate this to my wife because she’s been working hard behind me mentally and also she, always gives me confidence,” said player of the match Ravindra Jadeja.
“I am very happy, firstly that I got my debut and I could perform well. The team also won. It was a dream to play for India, I would perform and the team would also win,” said Sarfaraz Khan.
“It was always a dream to play Test cricket and we have won. Feeling really good. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s batting was the turning point, scoring a double hundred and the way he has been batting,” said Dhruv Jurel.
