India’s ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah is set to be rested for the fourth Test against England, slated to get underway on February 23 in Ranchi.

Bumrah, who returned from a long 11-month hiatus due to a back injury in August last year, has been carefully managed by the Indian cricket team since.

The right-arm quick hasn’t played any white-ball cricket since the World Cup 2023. He only participated in the two Test matches in South Africa and currently plying his trade in the red-ball series against England at home.

According to a Cricbuzz report, Bumrah will now get a break next week during the Ranchi Test as part of the workload management.

The rest will mean nearly a 20-day break for Bumrah as the fifth and final Test is scheduled to start on March 7. However, his participation in the series finale will depend on the result of the Ranchi Test.

Bumrah, the leading wicket-taker in the series with 17 scalps to his name, has already bowled close to 81 overs combined in the first three Tests in Hyderabad, Vizag and Rajkot.

Similarly, pacer Mohammed Siraj was earlier rested for the second Test in Vizag as part of the workload management.

As of now, there is no update on whether there will be a replacement bowler for Bumrah or not for the penultimate Test match. Pacer Mukesh Kumar, who was released from the squad for the third Test to take part in Bengal’s Ranji fixture against Bihar, is likely to rejoin the team in Ranchi.

India are leading the five-match series 2-1 following a thumping 434-run victory over England in Rajkot. The Rohit Sharma-led side will be keen to seal the series in the fourth Test match in Ranchi.
