India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed his maiden Test double hundred on Day 2 of the second Test against England in Visakhapatnam.

The southpaw waged a lone battle for India in the first innings, scoring 209 out of the team’s 396-run total. His 290-ball knock was studded with 19 fours and 7 sixes.

After his dazzling double century, Jaiswal received a congratulatory message from former India opener Gautam Gambhir, who also urged everyone not to overhype the achievement of the youngster.

With this knock, the 22-year-old Jaiswal became the third youngest Indian to get a Test double ton after Vinod Kambli and Sunil Gavaskar.

"I want to congratulate the youngster for his achievement but, more importantly, I want to tell everyone that let the young man play. We have seen in the past that in India we have a habit, especially the media, to overhype their achievements and give them tags and make them look like heroes," Gambhir told PTI during an interaction.

"The pressure of expectation gets the better of them and the players are not able to play their natural game. Let him grow and enjoy his cricket," he added

While Jaiswal has flourished with the bat so far in the Test series, Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer have been found wanting.

Gambhir, 42, backed the struggling players, saying that they should be given more time. In the three innings so far, Gill has registered scores of 23, 0 and 34 while Iyer has made 35, 13 and 27.

"We should give them time as they are quality players, and they have shown it in the past with their performance. That is why they are playing for India," Gambhir said.
