India won the first Test in Chennai by 280 runs.
India secured a dominant win over Bangladesh in the first of the two Tests, that was played in Chennai on September 22. India won the match by a huge margin of 280 runs to go 1-0 up in the series.
Setting an imposing goal of 515 runs for the visitors, the hosts knocked out Bangladesh for 234 in their second innings to secure a 280-run victory in Chennai's Chepauk Stadium.
Ravichandran Ashwin, who was voted Player of the Match, was instrumental with both bat and ball, making a century and taking 6/88 in the game. Ravindra Jadeja also starred with 5 wickets and a score of 86 in the match, while Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant scored centuries. Jasprit Bumrah helped India keep Bangladesh to 149 in the first innings.
The match also saw some light-hearted banter between Shubman Gill and Mohammed Siraj. Gill poked fun at the pacer using an old video of Siraj that went viral recently. In the old video, posted on Instagram, before he made his India debut, Siraj is seen confirming that the said ID was his real one and all others were fake.
This was used by Shubman Gill who was fielding at short leg as the stump mic caught him saying: "Mohammad Siraj official ID hai, baaki ki sab fake hai [This is Mohammed Siraj's official ID; all the others are fake]."
