Kohli was alluding to Hasan Mahmud bowling a series of yorkers at Indian batters.
Kohli scored only 17 runs from 37 deliveries following his run-a-ball six in the first innings, but his exchange with Bangladeshi sensation Shakib Al Hasan went viral on social media.
The Indian superstar hitter was captured on video and stump mics telling Shakib that Hasan Mahmud is continually delivering yorkers as if he were Lasith Malinga.
“Malinga bana hua, yorker pe yorker de raha hai (He is bowling yorkers like Lasith Malinga),” Kohli can be heard saying to Shakib, who laughs.
On a day where 17 wickets fell, India could only add 37 runs to their overnight score in the first hour against the second new ball, bringing their first innings to 376 in 91.2 overs.
In response, rapid bowling Jasprit Bumrah took 4-50 in a relentless and blistering bowling display, dismissing Bangladesh for 149 and helping India establish a 227-run advantage.
Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Ravindra Jadeja supported him by keeping the pressure on to capture two scalps apiece as Bangladesh collapsed.
India elected not to enforce follow-on and scored 81/3 at stumps in their second innings after 23 overs. With Shubman Gill (33 batting) and Rishabh Pant (12 batting), at the crease, and Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Virat Kohli back in the hut.
