Gautam Gambhir, India's head coach, has said that the team’s batting unit has enough quality and skills to take on any spin unit of any team.

His words come after India batters struggled hard against Sri Lanka spinners in the recent ODI series in the island nation. After tying the first ODI in Colombo, India failed to chase scores under 250 runs in the next two ODIs at the same venue.

Jeffrey Vandersay picked 6/33 in Sri Lanka’s win in the second ODI, while Dunith Wellalage picked 5/27 in the third ODI win.

Speaking to the media on the eve of the two-Test series against Bangladesh in Chennai, Gambhir also asserted that India's obsession with batting has been offset by the bowling trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, R Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja.

"Our batting unit has so much quality that it can take on any spin unit. "There is a lot of difference between ODIs and Tests,Gambhir said as per PTI.

He also showered the team's bowlers with praise, pointing out that they have been winning matches lately.

"India once was a batting-obsessed nation. But Bumrah, Shami, Ashwin, and Jadeja have turned it into a bowlers' game. Bumrah is the best fast bowler in the world now who can make a difference at any stage of the game," he said.

Gautam Gambhir also talked about Rishabh Pant making his Test comeback. Pant is expected to play his first Test match since December 2022 when India plays Bangladesh in Chennai from September 19 onwards.

"Pant has done phenomenally well as a destructive batter but his wicket-keeping in Indian conditions has been understated. His keeping against Ashwin and Jadeja is exceptional," Gambhir said.
