IND v WI 2018: COC presents Team India players’ ratings for West Indies series

IND v WI 2018: COC presents Team India players’ ratings for West Indies series

India defeated West Indies 2-0 in the two-Test series.

By Jatin Sharma - 16 Oct, 2018

Team India crushed the West Indies team by an innings and 272 runs in the first Test at Rajkot and then by 10 wickets in the second Test match to wrap up the 2-match Test series 2-0.

Though West Indies showed some spark in either Test match, they were comprehensively beaten in every aspect of the game by the Indian team. Indian team decided to give a debut to two new players in this Test series in form of Prithvi Shaw in the first Test and Shardul Thakur in the second Test.

Even the regulars of the Indian team were on top of their game and everyone except KL Rahul. Pujara, Rahane, Kohli and even the bowlers were in the action and Team COC brings to you the player ratings for the Indian team for the West Indies Test series.

Check out the COC presents Team India players’ ratings for the West Indies series

PRITHVI SHAW- 10/10

Prithvi Shaw scored 237 runs in the 2-Test series including a debut Test century at Rajkot, which was the third fastest in Test history on debut and he made many records during his knock of 134. He followed it up with a fifty in the second Test and he ended the series with an average of 118.50 and strike rate of 94.04. He also won the Man of the series award for his brilliant debut scores.

RAVINDRA JADEJA-10/10
Ravindra Jadeja came off age as an all-rounder with his maiden international century on his home ground in Rajkot. His 100* was followed by 7 wickets in two Tests and his erring accuracy was the perfect foil for Kuldeep Yadav and R Ashwin. He is now a true all-rounder and has more or less impressed the selectors ahead of the tour to Australia.

VIRAT KOHLI- 9/10
Indian captain Virat Kohli made his return to cricket after the break from the Asia Cup 2018. He scored a century (139) in the first Test match, his 24th Test century and led from the front in the field. A total of 184 runs in two Tests with an average of 92 will do his confidence no harm.

RISHABH PANT-9/10
Rishabh Pant kept well on turning Indian pitches to three of the best Indian spinners. However, what was the game changer for India was his batting down the order, as he smoked 92 each in the two Tests at an astonishing strike rate of 84.40. He has done well for Ravi Shastri to even point out that Pant may have confirmed his place for the Australia tour.

AJINKYA RAHANE-7/10
Ajinkya Rahane got some runs (121) under his belt with the best score of 80 and will do him a lot of good after a dismal England tour. Rahane was good in the field as well and will be a key component as India looks towards the Australia tour.

CHETESHWAR PUJARA-5/10
Cheteshwar Pujara scored 86 in the first Test at Rajkot but failed to score runs in the second Test. Even his mode of dismissals in the two Tests pointed out to a weakness of prodding and probing outside off stump.

R ASHWIN- 7/10
R Ashwin picked 9 wickets in two Tests with a best for 4/37 and was at his probing and prodding best in his favorite home conditions. He also made 42 runs in the two Tests with a best of 35.

KL RAHUL- 1/10
KL Rahul is seemed to be in the reverse purple patch of his career here. He scored a century in the fifth and final dead rubber Test in England. It should have done him a lot of good, but instead, he scored a duck and four runs in the first two innings he played against WI and then a dodgy 33* in chase of 72 runs.

UMESH YADAV-9/10
Umesh Yadav became the strike bowler for India with 11 wickets in two Tests, including a 10-wicket haul in the Hyderabad Test with career-best figures of 6/88 and 10/133. This all came when he was left to shoulder the quick bowling duties in the Hyderabad Test, as the debutant and fellow fast bowler Shardul Thakur limped out of the Test injured after bowling 10 balls. Yadav continued the barrage with consistently high pace whenever he came on to bowl and impressed one and all in absence of Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar.

KULDEEP YADAV - 7/10
Kuldeep Yadav will remember the series as he became the second Indian bowler to pick five-wicket hauls in all the three formats, after his career-best 5/57 in the first Test. A total of 10 wickets in two Tests was enough evidence that he can bamboozle any batsmen on any surface.

MOHAMMAD SHAMI- 4/10
Mohammad Shami got to play just one Test in the series, picking two wickets. He was rested in the second Test match since he had played in the full five Tests of the England series without breaking down. This bodes well for the Indian team as Shami’s fitness is important for the upcoming Australia tour.

SHARDUL THAKUR- 0/10
Shardul Thakur waited two years for his Test debut and got to bowl just 10 balls, before limping out with a groin injury. This also puts a question mark over the selectors over assessing the fitness of Shardul, as he had previously hurt himself in the Asia Cup previously and was undergoing rehab.
