Prithvi Shaw became the 15th Indian to score a century on Test debut.
Shaw, who has won the U19 World Cup in New Zealand in January this year, has also scored centuries on his Ranji debut and Duleep Trophy debuts. A lot was expected of him on his Test debut and he came good with a brilliant 99-ball century, the third fastest on debut behind Dwayne Smith and Shikhar Dhawan.
Michael Vaughan tweeted, “Wow .. 18 yrs old @PrithviShaw .. Test 100 on debut .. Looks like #India have another superstar that has arrived on the scene !!! #INDvWI”

Replying to this tweet, Former Australia opener Mark Waugh also shared his opinion. Waugh, who himself scored a Test hundred on debut and played 128 Tests and 244 ODIs for Australia, said that he saw shades of two of the greatest batsmen in the history of cricket; India’s Sachin Tendulkar and West Indian legend Brian Lara.
Waugh tweeted, “Great prospect. Cross between B.Lara and Sachin Tendulkar.#goodcombination”
