Apart from the hosts bowlers’ dominance, the highlight of the first two sessions’ play in the third Test between India and England was a controversial decision involving Shubman Gill.

After England got bowled out for 112 in their first innings, Gill came out to open the innings alongside Rohit Sharma.

In the second over of India’s innings, Gill edged a delivery from Stuart Broad at second slip, where Ben Stokes seemed to have caught the ball. However, the on-field umpire preferred to go upstairs while giving OUT as soft signal.

After seeing the replay just once, third umpire C Shamshuddin felt the catch was not clean and overruled the on-field soft signal.

The hurried decision made by the third umpire infuriated the visitors as the likes of Broad, James Anderson and Joe Root were seen arguing with on-field umpire Anil Chaudhary while Stokes was seen laughing and clapping in disbelief.

Meanwhile, India skipper Virat Kohli also saw the replay on the big screen and reacted animatedly from the dugout.

India went to the dinner break with a score of 5/0 on the board. While Gill was yet to open his account, Rohit was batting on 5 not out.
