Team India need to win 2-1 or 3-1 against England to qualify for World Test Championship Final.
Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir has advised Team India to focus on winning the remaining two Test matches against England and not keep thinking about qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final.
The Test series between India and England is level 1-1 after two games with two more to go at the Motera stadium in Ahmedabad. The hosts need to win at least 1 Test with the other ending in a draw or a win to qualify for the much-awaited WTC Final scheduled to take place in England right after IPL 2021.
However, Gambhir has expressed his opinion that every Test match is important and thus the Indian team must now focus on the upcoming day/night Test from February 24.
Gautam Gambhir told ANI, "Every Test match is important, one should not keep on thinking about the World Test Championship. The team should focus on this pink-ball game. I think it would be a good Test match."
The Indian side has a similar mindset going forward to that of the former cricketer. It can be understood from opener Rohit Sharma's press conference before the third Test.
Rohit said in the virtual presser, "To be honest, when we are playing the game, the focus is not on the outside. We want to qualify for the WTC finals, but we still to do a lot of things right to be there."
"We will be very happy to qualify for the WTC finals, but there are little steps that we need to take before we reach the finals. It is too far ahead still, we have got two Tests to play before that, we will see what happens after that," he added.
