Javagal Srinath named as the match-referee for the entire India-England series.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has on Tuesday (February 18) announced the match officials for the remaining two Test matches of the ongoing four-match Test series between India and England.
The ICC has announced the same officials, who officiated the first two Tests, for the remainder of the ongoing four-match Test series in India.
The sport’s governing body also confirmed that Javagal Srinath will be the match-referee for the entire series including the last 2 Tests and upcoming white-ball series.
Anil Chaudhary will join ICC Elite panel umpire Nitin Menon for the third Test, which will be a day-night game to be played from February 24 in Ahmedabad, while Virender Sharma will stands with Menon for the fourth and final Test on the field starting March 4.
ICC delayed the confirmation of the match officials because the body was reportedly analyzing the performance of Chaudhary and Sharma in the first two Test matches between India and England, as the latter did well on the field in the first Test but committed a major error as a third umpire in the 2nd Test.
Whereas Chaudhary did not go through the whole replay for a caught-behind appeal against Ajinkya Rahane in India's first innings and declared the vice-captain “not out” despite the decision should have been “out”, leaving England players disappointed, but the travel restrictions and quarantine requirements left the ICC with few other options for the series.
Noteworthy, the ICC has also named Menon as one of the on-field umpires for the three ODIs in Pune, while Chaudhary will be doing the TV duties for the first two games on March 23 and 26 and Sharma will replace him for the third and final ODI on March 28. However, the ICC hasn’t announced the second on-field umpire for the ODI and the officials for the five T20Is.
Here’re Match Officials for the last two Tests:
Third Test (from February 24) in Ahmedabad: Nitin Menon, Anil Chaudhary (on-field umpires), C Shamshuddin (3rd umpire) and KN Ananthapadmanabhan (4th umpire); Match referee: Javagal Srinath
Fourth Test (from March 4) in Ahmedabad: Nitin Menon, Virender Sharma (on-field umpires), Anil Chaudhary (3rd umpire) and C Shamshuddin (4th umpire); Match referee: Javagal Srinath
