IND v ENG 2021: WATCH – Mohammed Siraj jumps in joy as R Ashwin hits his fifth Test ton on Day 3 at Chepauk

Ashwin and Siraj added 49 runs for the last wicket to take India to 286 in the second innings.

Veteran India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin proved his worth with the bat on Day 3 of the second Test against England.

Ashwin came to the crease when the hosts were struggling at 106/6 in their second innings on a turning Chepauk track. However, he played batted with positive intent amid the tough situation.

The off-spinner shared a 96-run stand for the seventh wicket with Virat Kohli. After the Indian skipper got out on 62, he farmed the strike brilliantly to bring his fifth ton in the longest format of the game.

Ashwin was batting alongside fast bowler Mohammed Siraj when he reached the three-figure mark. As soon as he completed the milestone, Siraj jumped in joy to celebrate it.

BCCI shared a video of the same on Twitter with the caption reading: “A moment to cherish forever! @ashwinravi99 gets his Test 100 in Chennai and Md. Siraj erupts in joy. The dressing room stands up to applaud.”

Ashwin and Siraj’s partnership lasted 55 deliveries for 49 runs before the former was dismissed by Olly Stone on 106.

Thanks to Ashwin’s heroics, Team India posted 286 in their second essay, setting a 482-run target for England in the fourth innings.
