Sundar, who was unbeaten on 33 at stumps on Day 3, added 52 more runs to his tally on the penultimate day. The southpaw held the one end firmly and executed his strokes to perfection even as the hosts kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Playing his second Test, Sundar eventually finished with 85 not out as India got bowled out for 337 in their first innings, conceding a massive 241-run lead. His knock was studded with 12 fours and 2 sixes.

Washington Sundar was the second highest scorer in India’s innings after wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant’s 91.

For his stunning display with the bat, Sundar garnered rich praise from the Indian cricket fraternity on Twitter.
