Root became the first batsman to hit a double ton in 100th Test.
Root, who was unbeaten on 128 at stumps on Day 1, dominated the Indian bowlers to propel his team towards a gigantic first innings total.
The right-hander played a marathon knock of 218 before getting out LBW to left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem. He batted more than 4 sessions and 377 balls while his knock was studded with 19 fours and 2 sixes.
Such was his innings that it also left the Indian skipper Virat Kohli in awe. When Root was preparing to head back to the dressing room after an unsuccessful DRS, Kohli walked up to his counterpart to shake hands.
Kohli acknowledged Root’s remarkable effort as he was seen patting the latter on the back.
