Australia won the third ODI by 21 runs and series 2-1 to become the new no.1 ranked ODI team.
The Steve Smith-led side posted 269 runs with Mitchell Marsh top-scoring with 47 while Mohammad Shami and Kuldeep Yadav took three wickets apiece. Then despite Virat Kohli’s 54 and Hardik Pandya’s 40, India could only manage 248 runs as Adam Zampa took 4/45 to rout Indians.
Thanks to this series win, Australia also became the new no.1 ranked team in ODIs, dethroning India.
The match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium also witnessed some strange scenes. Towards the end of the Australian innings, a dog entered the ground and stopped play much to the amusement of the Indian and Australian players.
The attempts of the ground staff to catch the canine led to laughter from Indian captain Rohit Sharma.

Then, during the Indian batting innings, the play had to be stopped as several kites, the birds of prey invaded the ground and began hunting for food. The likes of Hardik Pandya, Marcus Stoinis and others looked bemused.
