Ashton Agar warmed the bench in the first two Tests against India.
Australia haven't named a replacement for Agar ahead of the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test, slated to be held in Indore from March 1.
Ashton Agar was one of the four spinners named in the original touring party alongside Nathan Lyon, Mitchell Swepson, and Todd Murphy. However, he fell behind in the pecking order first to off-spinner Todd Murphy and fellow left-arm spinner Matt Kuhnemann.
Notably, Kuhnemann wasn’t part of the original 18-member squad and was added to the side after leg-spinner Swepson flew back home for the birth of his first child.
"(Agar) has worked incredibly hard, he's done his absolute best to support the team," Australian selector Tony Dodemaide told reporters in Delhi. "We acknowledge all the work he's done, he's worked his backside off.
"In the first Test it was a very close call (between Murphy, Agar and Swepson) as to what spin structure we went with. The question mark of whether the two off-spinners could go together.
"We had Matthew Kuhnemann coming in for the second Test – again a very close call with that. We just decided that Matthew's style would be suited to the conditions there."
Ashton Agar will take part in Western Australia’s Sheffield Shield match on March 2 and the 50-over Marsh Cup final on March 8.
Besides Agar, Josh Hazlewood and David Warner have returned home due to injuries. Meanwhile, Swepson is set to rejoin the squad ahead of the third Test while all-rounder Cameron Green is expected to be fit and available for the game in Indore.
