Australia pacer Josh Hazlewood has been ruled out of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy in India after he failed to recover from an Achilles injury.

Following the second Test in Delhi, Australia head coach Andrew McDonald confirmed that Hazlewood is heading home to continue his rehabilitation for the aforementioned injury that kept him away from the first two Tests.

Australian selectors had picked Hazlewood in the squad hoping that he would be able to overcome the injury and feature in the playing XI at some point on the tour. Instead, the fast bowler will continue his recovery at home in Sydney.

Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc and Cameron Green, who missed the first two Tests due to finger injuries, are set to return for the third game, slated to get underway in Indore from March 1.

McDonald declared Green 100 per cent fit for the third Test while Starc is also available for selection.

In fact, Starc was also available for selection in Delhi despite not being 100 per cent fit but the Australian team management went with debutant Matthew Kuhnemann as a third spinner

Earlier in the day, Cricket Australia revealed that skipper Pat Cummins flew back home due to a “serious family illness”.

Cummins will travel to Sydney for a couple of days before re-joining the squad ahead of the third Test.

Having conceded the first two Tests in Nagpur and Delhi, Australia have already conceded an unbeatable 2-0 lead to India in the four-match series.
