Prasad has been questioning Rahul's place in the Indian Test team for the past few days.
Amid his struggles, former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad has been questioning Rahul's place in the playing XI for the past few days with regular posts on Twitter.
In fact, Prasad has also come down heavily on the Indian team management for persisting with Rahul at the top of the batting line-up.
However, Prasad on Sunday (February 19) made it clear that there is nothing personal against Rahul and also offered him advice to play County cricket to regain his form.
"A few people thinking i have something personal against KL Rahul. Infact it is the opposite. I wish well for him and playing him in such form was never going to enhance his confidence. For him to earn his place back in Test cricket, now that the domestic season has ended," Prasad tweeted.
"Rahul needs to play County cricket in England , score runs and earn his place back, much like Pujara did when he was dropped. Playing Test Cricket for the country and doing everything possible to get back in form will be the best answer. But will it be possible to skip the IPL?" he added.
Despite his scores of 22, 23, 10 and 2 in an away two-Test series against Bangladesh in December 2022, Rahul was preferred in India’s starting XI over the in-form opening batter Shubman Gill for the first two Border-Gavaskar Trophy Tests.
However, the right-hander failed to repay the faith of the team management, registering scores of 20, 17 and 1 in three innings.
After India’s six-wicket victory in Delhi Test, skipper Rohit Sharma also broke silence on Rahul’s extended lean patch, saying that his opening partner needs to devise his own methods of scoring runs on turning tracks.
“When you are playing on pitches like these, you need to find your methods of scoring runs,” Rohit said about Rahul at the post-match press conference.
“Different individuals are part of this team and they will have different methods of scoring runs. We are not going to look too much into what one individual is doing. It is about how everyone needs to come together.
“It is a big series for us, so yeah that is my thought on KL,” he added.
