All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja played a key role in India’s innings and 132-run victory over Australia in the opening Border-Gavaskar Trophy Test at VCA Stadium, Nagpur.

It was Jadeja’s comeback match for India after a lengthy hiatus due to knee surgery and he certainly made his presence felt.

Jadeja starred with both bat and ball and deservedly earned the Player of the Match award. While the southpaw scored 70 in India’s only innings, he returned with seven scalps in the match, including a five-wicket haul in Australia’s first essay.

Over the years, Jadeja has established himself as India’s leading all-rounders across formats. However, there were times during the initial phase of his international career when he copped criticism for his inconsistent showing.

In an exclusive chat with The Indian Express, Jadeja was reminded of a tweet that he posted in 2013 when he was subjected to brutal trolling on the micro-blogging site.

“Don’t even try and judge me dude. You have no idea what the f*** I’ve been through,” Jadeja had tweeted.

Reacting to the post, Jadeja said, “On days when I haven’t done well, they start trolling, calling me names. They say things without knowing the kind of hard work I have done to reach this stage. Small, small things … there are so many struggles and sacrifices that I don’t even remember now.”

“Computer ke saamne fukre log baithe rehte hain, meme banate rehte hain aur kuchh bhi likhte rehte hain (Those idlers sitting in front of a computer have nothing to do, they sit and make memes and write anything that comes to their mind)."

The 34-year-old further stated that he often faces criticism about “earning money” in the IPL.

"See honestly, those things don’t matter to me. If they did, I wouldn’t have reached this far … They have no idea what all I had to go through to reach here. They say he is playing IPL and earning so much money … Believe me, in IPL, they don’t pick you by seeing your face,” Jadeja further said.

Ravindra Jadeja will be next seen in action in the second Test against Australia, slated to get underway on February 17 in Delhi.
