India won the Nagpur Test by an innings and 132 runs.
After Australia’s first innings folded for a paltry 177 on Day 1 of the opening Test, the pitch criticism made more noise.
However, the hosts piled up a massive 400 on the same wicket to put the ‘doctored pitches’ allegations to rest.
In their second innings, the Australian batting line-up once again fell like a pack of cards. The visitors were bowled out for a paltry 91 in just 32.3 overs as the Test match got over inside three days.
After the game, India skipper Rohit Sharma and veteran spinner R Ashwin took massive digs at Australia for the ‘doctored pitches’ claims leading up to the opening Test.
"Pitch talk is the real favourite topic on social media, especially for touring teams. When you were batting or they were batting, not one ball nicked off and went to silly points. You guys did not look in trouble. What is the secret? Is it good batsmanship or do we bat on a different pitch," Ashwin asked Rohit in a video posted on bcci.tv.
"Same pitch. Like I said, the talk we have in the changing room, it its about your ability and what you can do on the pitch. It's beyond my understanding why there is so much talk about pitch. Sad to see there is not enough talk about skills," Rohit replied.
For India, Rohit starred with the bat as he slammed a glorious century (120) while Ashwin took eight scalps in the game, including a five-wicket haul in Australia’s second essay.
However, it was Ravindra Jadeja who earned the Player of the Match award. Jadeja scored 70 in India’s only innings and returned with seven wickets in the match.
