India will play five Test matches in England in June-July 2025.
It seems like veteran batter Rohit Sharma will continue to captain India in Test cricket. His future has reportedly been decided by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). He will lead the Indian team on the 5-Test tour of England in June and July.
This despite India losing 6 Tests out of last 8 matches they played against New Zealand at home and in Australia, that knocked them out of the WTC 2025 finals race.
India will play five Tests against England, beginning June 20 in Headingley, to win their first away series at the Old Blighty since 2007.
According to a PTI report, Rohit is slated to head India's senior team in England. The 37-year-old's future with the Indian side was called into question when he scored only 164 runs in ten Test matches between September 2024 and January 2025.
It includes his dismal tour of Australia, where he scored 31 runs at 6.2, the lowest ever average for a touring captain Down Under. He also had a disappointing return to the Ranji Trophy in January, which ended his worst run in red-ball cricket.
According to the article, India will also monitor the fitness of top pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who is still recovering from a back ailment acquired during the tour of Australia. The star fast bowler is unavailable for the Mumbai Indians' first few IPL 2025 matches.
The BCCI's selection committee is preparing to reveal a major clue about the Indian team for the tour of England during the final week of the ongoing IPL 2025.
According to the report, which also states that Ajit Agarkar and Co. will select the India A squad for the two four-day tour games against the Lions, which will be played before the start of the senior team's series.
This side will include some of India's top players as part of the BCCI's efforts to prepare them for the series against Ben Stokes' men.
"There is enough time to announce the squad, mostly ahead of the knockouts or just after those matches. You will then get a clear picture as to which players are available by then," the PTI report stated.
