Odisha needed 6 runs off the last delivery but could only manage a four.
Odisha lost to Tamil Nadu by 1 run on Friday (November 5) in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021-22. The close match ended with a last-over thriller which also involved a controversial call by the umpire.
Chasing 166 runs, Odisha rode on Subhranshu Senapati's 67 runs knock to stay in the game despite losing captain Rajesh Dhupar and his opening partner Anshuman Rath early. In the lower order, Abhishek Raut smashed an unbeaten 38 runs off 21 deliveries but the effort wasn't enough to seal the match.

Odisha needed 12 runs off the last three deliveries in the final over bowled by experienced pacer T Natarajan. Raut played a shot between the long-off and covers which looked like racing away for a boundary.
But Murugan Ashwin put on a dive to save the four and a boundary was denied. The reply showed it was a four after the ball touched the rope and even Ashwin had pushed the ball back in from outside the boundary rope.
With 6 needed off the last delivery, Raut hit a four and Odisha fell 1 run short of winning the match. The Odisha coach and former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer pointed out the umpiring error but later deleted the tweet.
The Odisha fans were surprised to see a huge umpiring error and some even slammed the fielder, Ashwin for not informing the umpire regarding the boundary.
