In the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2021, Mumbai faced Puducherry in Jaipur and slammed 457/4 in 50 overs. This is the 4th highest List-A total in cricket history.

Puducherry captain Damodaran Rohit won the toss and decided to bowl first. It started well for him as Sagar Trivedi removed Yashasvi Jaiswal for 10 runs, but after that, he had to wait for 153 runs for the next wicket which came at the score of 211, when Aditya Tare fell for 56, clean bowled by Suresh Kumar.

Then Suryakumar Yadav entered the scene and along with the opener and captain Prithvi Shaw, started decimating the Puducherry bowling. The duo added 201 runs for the 3rd wicket, as Suryakumar slammed 133 in just 58 balls with 22 fours and 4 sixes. Shivam Dube also contributed 16 runs, as Mumbai made 457/4 in 50 overs.

However, the innings belonged to Prithvi Shaw who slammed an Indian record of 227* in 152 balls with 31 fours and 5 sixes with a strike rate of 149.34. He broke Sanju Samson’s record of the highest score in domestic one-dayers when he had made 212* against Goa in 2019.

Above Prithvi Shaw’s 227* are Shikhar Dhawan with 248 and Rohit Sharma with 264 as Indians with the highest scores in List-A cricket, but Shaw now holds the record for the highest score in Indian domestic 50 overs cricket.

Shaw’s 227* is also the highest List-A score by a captain, beating Graeme Pollock’s 222* vs Border in 1974.
