SMA Trophy 2021: WATCH – Kerala’s Mohammed Azharuddeen slams 37-ball ton versus Mumbai, Sehwag hails him

Azharuddeen became the second fastest century maker in the history of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.

Kerala opener Mohammed Azharuddeen on Wednesday (January 13) grabbed the headlines with his jaw-dropping innings in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (India’s domestic T20 tournament) encounter against Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium.

Chasing Mumbai’s 196/7 in 20 overs, Kerala got over the line with 8 wickets in hand and 25 balls to spare as Azharuddeen wreaked havoc on the hosts bowlers.

The right-hander slammed a ton in just 37 balls while he finished with 137 not out off just 54 deliveries. His knock was laced with 9 fours and 11 huge sixes.

In the process, Azharuddeen also became the second fastest century maker in the history of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. It was also the third joint-fastest T20 hundred by an Indian batsman.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag also hailed the Kerala lad for his breathtaking batting display.

Taking to Twitter, Sehwag wrote: “Wah Azharudeen , behtareen ! To score like that against Mumbai was some effort. 137* of 54 and finishing the job on hand. Enjoyed this innings.”
