SMIT PATEL 135* – BEN V TRI
Bengal batted first against Tripura in their Vijay Hazare Trophy tie at Chennai and scored 272/9 in 50 overs. Manoj Tiwary top scored with 67 and Anustup Majumdar scored 48. Rajat Dey picked 4/48 for Tripura.
Tripura’s chase was based on wicketkeeper Smit Patel’s brilliant century and opener NN Sen Chowdhary’s 55. Smit scored 135* off 153 balls with 13 fours which kept Tripura on course for the upset win, However, Ashoke Dinda’s two wickets and 2/42 from P Ray Burman won Bengal the match by 9 runs, as Tripura ended up making 263/4.
JALAJ SAXENA 58* & 4/31- KER V CG
CG batted first and scored 138 in 40 overs, with Saxena picking 4/31 and AR Chandran picking 3/13. AN Khare with 38 was the top scorer for CG. In reply, Saxena scored 58* in 120 balls to stabilize the innings and won the match for Kerala by 6 wickets.
ANKEET BAWANE 100* - MAH V PUN
Maharashtra batted first and scored 281/5 with Bawane making a sublime 100* in 138 balls with 4 fours and 1 six. NS Shaikh made a run-a-ball 60 with 7 fours and 2 sixes and A Palkar scored 46* in 32 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes to aid in the run making.
Punjab’s chase was derailed by 5/54 by Satyajeet Bachav who removed the big guns like Abhishek Sharma, Manpreet Singh, and Yuvraj Singh to keep them from ever competing in the game. Punjab made 187 and lost the game by 94 runs.
PRITHVI SHAW 129 – MUM V RLYS
After losing skipper Rahane for 3 runs, Shaw and Shreyas Iyer (144) slammed the Railways bowlers to all parts of the Bengaluru. The duo added 162 runs for the second wicket. Shaw scored his runs at the strike rate of 159.25.
