West Indies and New Zealand featured in a nail-biting World Cup 2019 encounter at Old Trafford on Saturday (June 22), with the latter winning the contest by just 5 runs.

After being put into bat, the Black Caps rode on skipper Kane Williamson’s classy 148 off 154 balls to post 291/8 on the board. In reply, West Indies got close to the target, courtesy Carlos Brathwaite’s 82-ball 101 and fifties from Chris Gayle (87) and Shimron Hetmyer (54) but the brilliance of Kiwi bowlers eventually prevailed. While Trent Boult picked up 4/30 in his 10 overs, Lockie Ferguson returned with the figures of 3/50 in his quota of overs.

Apart from the fierce contest between bat and ball, the match also witnessed a hilarious incident involving Chris Gayle.

During the 35th over of New Zealand innings, Gayle got rid of the well-set Ross Taylor on 69. While celebrating the much-needed wicket, The Universe Boss jumped in joy but he hilariously ended up injuring his shoulder.

After jumping, Gayle felt some pain in his shoulder as he held it for some time before walking off the field to analyse the extent of his injury.

In a similar manner, Pakistan pacer Hassan Ali’s signature wicket-taking celebration had gone wrong in an ODI match against Zimbabwe last year as well. After castling the Zimbabwe wicketkeeper batsman Ryan Murray, Hassan had flaunted his trademark ‘generator starting’ celebration. However, in the process, he pulled a muscle of his neck.
